The Kia Ora collection comprises 332 bones belonging to at least 51 individuals (17 Emeus crassus , 12 Eury aptéryx geranoides, five D. struthoides , three P. elephantopus , one D. giganteus and 13 unidentified individuals). No chronological significance is attached to the moa bone, and the midden is probably between 150 and 300 years old. The pollen core from near the lake was taken and analysed by Mr M. McGlone
